“If It’s Important, You’ll Find A Way; If It’s Not, You’ll Find Excuses.”
I posted something like this on my Facebook timeline about a week or two ago and I’ve had a few people comment on it. Today I had a bit of an epiphany, I recently joined a coaching program with a Peak Performance coach in America. Obviously him being in America, and I’m in Australia, the only way I can get on the calls is by me going on a zoom call to go through a meeting and so forth. I got my first email yesterday, signed on my first call this morning. When I looked at the time, I realised I have to be on a call at 5:00 AM. I’m usually not a morning person.
Now that I’m actually finding and I’m working and living my life with purpose, I should find that easy to wake up. But if I’m not enjoying life, I’d find it hard to wake up in the morning. There can be some good mornings for me, but I still struggle between 5 and 5:15, to be able to get up and get to the gym. I still make it every day at 5:30. I’m pushing myself, but it’s not something that comes naturally to me. I’m more of a night person. However, I found that I had to make a decision. Is it important enough for me to wake up at 4:30, have my coffee, wash my face, get dressed and be fresh to get on this video call, or am just going to snooze? And what do you think happened?
Number one, this guy, I’ve been wanting to get coached by him for many, many years. He’s one of the world’s top NLP coaches and top NLP trainers. And now I’ve got the opportunity to work one on one with him and closely with him. I took on the opportunity and now what it means for me is that I have to make adjustments in my life to be able to obviously to be able to accommodate him because he’s obviously in America and it’s just a massive time difference. So for him, midday is from a 5:00 AM in the morning. And number two, obviously, is the amount of money I paid for this.
So this morning I found myself having to make that decision. At 4:40, the alarm was going off and I was like, man, I was out of it and I couldn’t remember why I had to get up then. I looked at my phone like, “Shit, I’ve gotta get on this call”. And then before I even got out of bed, I was already dialing in and I started thinking, why did I do that? When I usually prefer to stay in bed but now, even if I struggled getting out of bed, I still did because I realized that this is something that I’ve wanted for many, many years and I found that it was very important for me so I ended up doing it. The lesson here is if something is important to you, you’re going to find a way of doing it. How many times have we, whether it’s something we want to buy, something new we want to wear, especially with the iPhones. How many times do you see, you know 14-15 year olds, 16 year olds have an iPhone and their parents ever have a phone that good.
They’ve gone and they saved their money from whatever way they can throw out a brand new iPhone cause that’s obviously important for them and that’s why they’re doing it now also with us as adults. When something’s important, we’ll work hard. We’ll save for that new surge or new outfit. For all the ladies out there, if it’s a new bag or something, and I’m not saying cliche, but that’s the reality. They’ll find a way and I’ll find a way of actually doing it. Now my question to you is if there are areas in your life in which you are not succeeding and areas in your life that are not perfect and areas in your life that you want to get better at, how important is it for you?
How important is it for you and how much are you willing to do it in a work to be able to get whatever it is, whether it’s losing weight. Like I said, I’d put on a bit of weight recently because I wanted to do a transformation challenge and today I had caught a few confrontational moments looking in the mirror or walking past windows. I’m doing some videos for the new upcoming book and the new training coming on. I could see myself and I was like, man, I’m not happy. So now it’s become more important for me to train harder and lose weight faster, which I know I can. But I had to have that pain. Sometimes a lot of us need the pain to be able to go towards the pleasure, which is one of the motivators of humans.
We have two motivators, the away and towards the pleasure. It’s something that I went through, which really helped me understand why I’m succeeding in certain things and why I’m not. Because there’s either away or towards pain. Now for me health and fitness have always started off as away pain and they became towards pain. And then I’ve always been that way. Obviously I’ve let myself go so I can show you guys how easy for something to be done. So now you know there’s also a bit of pain on top, but also there’s towards, so I’ll talk about that another time because it goes back to how important something is for a person would define how much effort and how much work do we need to do for it.
I get people to say to me, man, I don’t have time for the gym. I’ll be like, it’s not that you don’t have time. It’s not a priority. It’s not important for you to go to the gym. When it becomes a priority, When you get that Hill escape, when you gotta get a blood test and get high blood cholesterol or you’re pre-diabetic or whatever it is that your doctor tells you, and all the sudden you’re like, shit, my life is on the line here. I guarantee you, you’re gonna get your ass to the gym. Same with anything else in your career. If you have a performance review and all of a sudden your job is on the line, I guarantee you you’re going to work harder. The challenge with that is how long can we maintain that away motivation if we keep maintaining, if we keep just going away and away.

And it’s something that I’m going to be bringing in around in my coaching program for men is understanding our away and towards motivation. When we understand then we can eliminate the away and have more towards cause towards is what you want to do towards that enjoyment towards happiness that wasn’t going to give you that longevity in your motivation because motivation is short term. Until you find your purpose, your motivation is going to be short term. So for me, because I found my purpose and I had this great opportunity, you’re on this call and here’s when it was my new coach and they’re going to be twice a week. So again, it was so important for me that I actually rescheduled my whole day and I was like, you know what? I’m going to get up at 4:45, 4:30 get ready, be ready for 5:00 AM call, then get straight to the gym and I start my day seven and I still made it to the gym because both of these things are important for me.
I wasn’t going to miss out on workout. The other thing we’ll say is my work and what I’m doing. Every day I do at least 12 to 14 hours on the coaching program that I’m building because it’s my passion and I love doing it and assume I talk to me with my clients. So all of this stuff coupled with how important something is for you. As I said to you guys, I believe there are four important things in life that we need to be to have a fulfilling life, our mindset, our bond, our body, and our calling. Now let’s dig into that a little bit about body. Obviously about me training and so forth. I spoke about calling, which is once you’re working in a place with purpose and on purpose, meaning you’ve found your purpose.
And you’re working on that purpose, then you’re going to have a lot more satisfaction and a lot more, fulfillment at your role. And that goes back to the human nature that we spoken about. So ask yourself if something is not working in your life, how important is it for you? Because if it’s not important, I guarantee you, you’re making excuses. It’s too hard. I don’t have the time. I’m too this. I’m too that. I’m too old. I’m too young. I don’t have the education, all these other bullshit excuses that we tell ourselves. So if it’s important, you’ll find a way. If it’s not important, you’ll find an excuse. That’s today’s mastery hack. Always remember to keep liking, sharing, comment on my posts.
